MooTools 1.2.1 Released

Postby daKmoR on Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:00 am

Tom Occhino on Mootools Blog wrote:In keeping with our new pledge to release more often, we’ve been working hard lately to get 1.2.1 ready for release, and we’re finally happy with it. This release brings a ton of bug fixes, and is a drop in replacement for 1.2.0. (That’s right, no breaking changes!)

What’s new?
Element.Properties.html (element.set('html', html);) now works even with select and table element’s in Internet Explorer. Element:clone is also now faster than ever, and retains the values of form elements being cloned. A lot of work has also been done to fix some bugs in Class.js, and Safari 2 support is now back. With the help of Daniel Steigerwald, we’ve also cleaned up quite a few memory leaks in IE related to events and Element storage, and destroyed elements are now more effectively destroyed.

For a complete list of changes, see the changelog on GitHub…

What’s next?
We are going to keep going through all the tickets, and try to start fixing the bugs that have cropped up with some of the plugins. 1.2.2 might also see a few new features as we start preparing for some exciting changes and additions we have planned for 1.3.

MooTools 1.2 will be the last version of MooTools to support Safari 2 and Opera 9.5. These browsers have been advancing at a tremendous pace, and have a user base which updates regularly, so we don’t think this will be much of an issue when the time comes. Note that you don’t need to worry about this for quite some time yet because 1.3 is a long way off, but we just thought this was a good place to let everyone know.

This is great. It's cool that they release sub versions for small fixes and don't wait 2 years until they have ten new classes. getPosition() still need some improvement in my opinion, especially when you use the relative option, I still get some weird results sometimes. The Scroller plugin still does not work at all. That's funny no one noticed that before 1.2 release. Not that I use it a lot, but I just happen to need it right now, so I was waiting for that release impatiently, but I guess I'm still going to need that patch I made. But yes I understood this release was mostly supposed to be an optimization.

Anyway, I downloaded it and replaced the old version in my repository, and surprisingly, everything seems to work fine on first try. My boss was like "Are you going to have to rewrite everything again?" yeah he did not really appreciate the transition to 1.2 .

Be cool, getPosition, and other styles related stuff will be FIXED in 1.2.2 version, I hope soon. It took a time to implement all my tickets (I made over 10% of all tickets) into real working fixes :-)

I suppose it could be a bit confusing. I'm not a fan of the way they have have everything split out for just this reason. The More page still has the revision 1.2 while the current is 1.2.1 there is too much to update on the site when new releases come out.

just re-downloaded everything you need from the Core and More and you will be fine.

My vote is to put everything back into one download page so that when MooTools is updated it's easy to track which version is which. Or take the More page and turn it into a official plugin type page that lists dependencies and are versioned independently. I just think this whole Core vs. More spilt is overcomplicated. I mean technically there are things in the "Core" that are MORE than what I may need on a given project.
