Norton Anti-Virus Fals Positive

Postby rbrandon on Wed Dec 10, 2008 4:13 pm

Looks like norton anti-virus is reporting our mootools library as malware.

We are receiving multiple reports if our 1.11 core getting blocked.

I am not sure what compression scheme we used but has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have a suggestion on how to prevent norton from flagging the file?

Yes, I concur - I just had my Norton Internet Security report the same thing! A site i manage uses ver. 1.11 and it suddenly this morning started reporting the mootools .js file as an "intrusion attempt"! I then downloaded ver. 1.2 in the hopes that something might have changed in it to rectify ...but it reports the same.

Interestingly, i have a Lavasoft AdAware AdWatch that i typically have running. If this is loaded and running, then Norton doesn't complain, but when it is off, it then reports the mootools as a High Risk and blocks it.

Hope this can be resolved soon - I hate to have my site visitors experience this!

That's actually a Norton issue, not a mootools issue - solution - run liveupdate.

Yes, i noticed this yesterday - that when my live Update ran automatically the issue resolved itself. I suspect, however, that someone, somewhere, had to report to Symantec that it was throwing a false pos on mootools - or they'd never corrected in an update. ;)
